Our Journey
Week Five-Six
When puppies reach 5 and 6 weeks old, they move into another phase of the curriculum- a little more advanced and unpredictable. The puppies are moved to different spaces - different rooms and outside in the garden, weather permitting. The 10 - steps handling is increasing in intensity and pressure. Sounds and objects exposure continues. At this time, we start exposing our puppies to different people – family and close friends - and they start playing in the garden with Leo and Olive. Potty and crate training continues. The crate training starts with an “open door policy” at week 5, and continues with doors closed and “ the buddy system” for a few days, at week 6. By the end of week 6, the puppies start staying solo in the crate.
Week Four
We started the socialization period for the puppies and all four puppies loved every second of it. During play time, we have relocated them from the welping box to a larger play pan. We have introduced multiple items that help with new sensory exposure. We have continued with sound exposure such as different types of music, door bell, firework, children and animal sounds to name a few. The handling continues everyday and we are loving it as much as they are (or more) :)
We have also introduced crate training with the door open for them to get the opportunity to explore in and out of the crate and become comfortable with it.
Week 3
We have started the noise exposure, gentle handling exercises, whelping box novelty objects exposure, and we have added the designated potty area. We are also trimming their nails for their weekly mani pedi’s :)
We have also started to introduce puppy mash, which consists of grounded gibbles, goat’s milk, probiotic and powdered pumpkin.
Day 3-16
Early Neurological Stimulation and Early Scent Introduction start on day 3 and continue daily until day 16.
When doing ENS, we apply mild stresses to the puppies (such as keeping them for 3-5 seconds upright, on their backs, with the head down, using a Q-Tip to touch their toes, and placing them on a cold pad) in a controlled and safe environment. At the end, we keep the puppies close to our heart, to ensure they are completely relaxed before we put them down. These stresses will help stimulate the neurological system which improves the growth and development of the puppy's cardiovascular system, immune system, resilience, coping mechanism, and stress tolerance.
ESI helps puppies with their nose awareness and confidence, and it enhances their ability to identify and react to scents. It promotes sensory perception, helps with memory formation, and facilitates bonding between caregivers and puppies.
